yoga for the st. croix valley and beyond yoga is an art, science, and philosophy. it is the joining of our humanness with our spirit. through yoga practices, harmony and balance is brought to the body, mind, and spirit. meditation practice in yoga leads one to self-knowledge. yoga is living one's life in union with nature. yoga excludes no one. hatha yoga is a physical discipline of the yoga systems. hatha yoga teaches one to listen to the body and begin quieting the mind by placing attention on the breath and a posture. a class in hatha yoga consists of body postures that work on balancing muscular action, flexibility and strength, along with breathing and relaxation exercises that both energize and soothe the body and the mind. this explanation is like a grain of sand on a beach... the fullness of yoga unfolds to one who partakes in it. amy hawks began her studies in yoga in 1976 and initiated in the himalayan tradition in 1977. she considers herself a life-long student of yoga. she began her teaching in 1996 in stillwater, mn and continues to teach there and in the st croix valley area. amy, founder of still water yoga, opened the studio's doors in 2001 to offer the teaching of hatha yoga, meditation and the science, philosophy and psychology of yoga, the true essence of yoga. she previously served as chair person for the board of namaste yoga institute in st. paul. her classic teachings have evolved through years of personal exploration and training with yoga masters. |
